UFC star Conor McGregor went scorched-earth on longtime UFC rival Khabib Nurmagomedov after the latter launched an NFT drop on the Telegram messaging app. The Khabib crypto NFT drop was widely panned by both the MMA and crypto communities, labelled as a ‘cash-grab’. It didn’t take long for his rival McGregor to weigh in.

“There is just no way good guy Khabib used his late father’s name, as well as Dagestan’s culture, to scam his fans and fire sell a bunch of digital NFTs online,” McGregor wrote in a now-deleted X post. Although the post was initially met with a lot of support, McGregor has seemingly deleted the post after everyone’s favourite on-chain sleuth, ZachXBT, called out the Irishman for his own crypto exploits.

ZachXBT 10-7’s Conor McGregor – Causes the Irish MMA Star to Delete His Khabib Crypto Tweets

It didn’t take long for on-chain sleuth ZachXBT to weigh in on McGregor calling out Khabib for his NFT drop, noting that McGregor attempted to launch his own celebrity memecoin, REAL, in April. ZachXBT said:

“There is just no way good guy McGregor used his reputation, as well as Irish culture, to scam his fans and fire sell a bunch of digital tokens online and then delete all of the posts after they were sold, leaving his fans robbed of their money?”

McGregor’s REAL token was offered to prospective buyers in a sealed-bid auction earlier this year. The sealed-bid auction was chosen to prevent snipers and automated trading bots from manipulating prices at launch, but it only raised 39% of its target.

The funds raised were refunded to participants after the failed launch, according to McGregor. The token’s failure was due to multiple factors, including a broad crypto market downturn and a bear market in memecoin.

Conor McGregor is a two-weight world UFC champion, besting the likes of Eddie Alvarez, Jose Aldo, Nate Diaz, and many more, amassing a record of 22-6. However, it seems that the controversial Irish sports star didn’t want any smoke from ZachXBT.

Within a few hours of Zach firing back at McGregor, the former UFC champion quickly deleted all X posts related to the Khabib crypto drama.

Further reports suggest Khabibfired back at McGregor, labelling the Irishman a ‘liar’ in now deleted Tweets.

Back and Forth Between Khabib and McGregor: Who Won the War of Words?

Many believe that Conor McGregor was spot on with his criticism of the Khabib crypto NFT drop. Aside from the allegations of scamming his followers, McGregor alluded to Khabib using his culture and his late father’s name to sell worthless NFTs.

The disappearance of Khabib’s father became a source of motivation for McGregor. He wrote on X, “There is just no way the good guy Khabib would use his late father’s name and Dagestan’s culture to scam his fans.” He further criticized Khabib’s actions, saying, “Selling digital NFTs online and then deleting all the content after they were sold is a shame and a stain on his father’s name.”

McGregor added, “Father’s plan has now become Father’s scam. Very sad.” His comments seem to align with his recent push to prepare for a comeback in 2025, particularly after he has recently re-entered the drug-testing pool. The former champion has been hinting at a return ever since the UFC announced plans for a significant event at the White House in 2026.

Speculation is now rife that McGregor may try to tempt Khabib back into the Octagon to settle the score, after the Russian famously beat the Irishman at Madison Square Garden back in 2018, before jumping the cage and attacking his teammates.

Khabib left the sport in 2020 after beating Justin Gaethje to take his record to 29-0. His reason for leaving the sport was his father’s passing and a promise he made to his mother to stop competing without his father at his side.

The former UFC champion may have chosen now to launch an NFT amid gradually improving crypto market conditions, with Bitcoin

What Was the Khabib Crypto NFT Drop: Cash-Grab or Tribute to His Father?

The drama all began last weekend after Nurmagomedov promoted a new NFT project tied to the famous papakha hat. It was the traditional headpiece he wore during his undefeated UFC run.

The drop reportedly included 29,000 NFTs and generated more than $4.4M in just 24 hours. It is a Telegram-exclusive non-fungible token that, once purchased, is tied directly to a user’s Telegram account and appears next to their username in chats.

Since McGregor called Khabib out, every post tied to the NFT rollout quietly disappeared from his social media platforms without explanation. Khabib and those around him have stated that the tweets were removed only because the auction sold out, meaning there was no need to keep the posts up.

Khabib responded to his rivals’ allegations, denying them. He went on to call McGregor “an absolute liar” while defending both the project and his family’s reputation.

The Russian went one step further, calling McGregor out for his alleged drug abuse, saying: “My count is 56 former drug addicts, at my rehabilitation centers in Dagestan, that I treated. Come to Dagestan @TheNotoriousMMA they’ll take care of you here. Mexico didn’t help you, as far as I can see.”

With the UFC White House Card just six months away, scheduled for June 2026, it remains to be seen whether this war of words regarding the Khabib crypto drama will lead to a rematch in the octagon between the two megastars.
